Apple is Coming, Are you ready?

Through the winter months, the press hinted that building permits were moving forward on Apple’s new East Coast Hub in Research Triangle Park. Very quietly, whispers on the media landscape, then a murmur that ground had broken on the site for the first 1.5 billion dollar phase of the project. In meetings with engineers in the park, emotions range from full denial to sheer terror. Their fear clear and palpable “They are going to steal all of our good people.”

My question::
What is being done inside your company now to increase communication, collaboration, and support for talent with satisfying work and work environments? What do you see in the mirror of your own company and culture? Have you asked your people what they need? How deep is trust and loyalty running on your team?

Yes, recruiters are researching the talent under your roof, but what is your counter strategy and long term game? Big business is alluring, but not without risks as seen in the recent layoffs at Google and RedHat (IBM).

In speaking with Distinguished Engineer Brian Bowman, he stated there is no tech and business anymore, business is tech-It has fully integrated. This in tandem with transformation no longer being episodic but the constant state of business today.

Apple has been joined by Google (already in Durham, NC) and Meta who just recently announced future presence in Durham’s American Tobacco Campus. As I look at the business ecosystem these giants have been attracted to, I expect to see the surrounding Triangle community stand a little bit taller to meet them, and that is good for business.
